UPPFL/CO: Une Union Fairtrade au Burkina Faso: L’Historique

L’Historique

Créée en 2006, l’UPPFL/CO est une union composée de 321 petits producteurs biologiques (qui a entre 0.5 et 1.5 ha de verger), 250 producteurs d’anacarde (disposant chacun d’une superficie allant de 1.5 à 10 ha) et d’une centaine de producteurs conventionnels. Ainsi, l’union rassemble environ 650 producteurs et a un impact indirect sur environ 6500 personnes.

L’union se compose de 4 associations:

Tancia : groupement mixte ;
Bengadi : riziculture et maraîcher-culture;
ACSP : commerçants de mangues (la plupart des mangues fraîches sont exportées vers Niamey, le reste se dirigeant vers les petits commerçants);
Salabougnouma : petits commerçants, notamment le bissap.

Avoirs/possessions

L’union possède un terrain d’une superficie de 4 ha où est installée une pépinière. Les plants de la pépinière seront utilisés pour la plantation de 1000 ha de verger de mangues – ce qui revient à environ 100 000 plants de manguiers ;
Dans ce vaste projet d’instauration de 1000 ha de verger, l’union elle-même possède 600 ha et son partenaire Fruiteq possède les 400 autres ha ;
L’union possède un terrain de 1.5 ha où elle programme l’installation d’une autre pépinière de qualité pour la vente des plants aux nouveaux producteurs ;
A Takaledougou, l’union a financé un point d’eau potable (présence d’un comité de gestion de l’eau et d’une association des usagers de l’eau), une ambulance et un CSPS, une maison de l’accoucheuse, un dépôt pharmaceutique et une bibliothèque ainsi qu’un petit marché au niveau du péage du village ;
L’union possède également un terrain de 2500 m2 dans la Commune de Banfora où est installée une unité de transformation de fruits et légumes. L’union a deux unités de transformation des mangues fraîches en mangues séchées : une à Takaledougou (qui emploie 70 femmes et 5 hommes – présence de 10 séchoirs) et une à Banfora (qui emploie 30 femmes et 5 hommes – présence de 9 séchoirs) ;
L’union possède un autre terrain dans la Commune de Banfora où elle compte installer son siège.

Union est un partenaire d'Oxfam-Québec dans le projet de One Drop, qui est un projet d'eau hygiène et l'assainissement dans la région de Hauts Bassins et de Cascades.
L'Union compte installer une unite de production de beurre de karité dans la Comoé. Et une unité de transformation de céréales et de jus de fruits.
L'Union compte installer un site de compostage pour résoudre le question des déchets menageres et permettre la promotion de l'agriculture biologique.

Founded in 2006, the UPPFL / CO is a union composed of 321 small organic farmers (who own between 0.5 and 1.5 ha of the orchard), 250 cashew producers (each with an area ranging from 1.5 to 10 ha) and a hundred conventional producers. Thus, the union brings together about 650 producers and has an indirect impact on about 6,500 people.

The Union is composed of four associations:

Tancia: Mixed group;
Bengadi: rice and vegetable-growing;
CPHA: mango traders (most of fresh mangoes are exported to Niamey, the rest going towards small retailers);
Salabougnouma: small merchants, including hibiscus.

Assets / Possessions

The union owns land with an area of 4 ha which is installed a nursery. The plants from the nursery will be used to plant 1000 hectares of mango orchard - which amounts to approximately 100,000 plants of mango trees. In this vast project of establishment of 1000 ha of orchard, the union itself has 600 ha and its partner Fruiteq has the other 400 ha;
The union has 1.5 ha of land where it plans to install a quality nursery for sale to new producers;
In Takaledougou, the union has funded a water supply (presence of a committee of water management and an association of water users), an ambulance and a CSPS, a house of delivery, a pharmaceutical depot and a library and a small market at the toll of the village;
The union also has an area of 2500 m2 in the municipality of Banfora which is installed a processing of fruits and vegetables. The union has two processing units of fresh mango dried mango: one Takalédougou (which employs 70 women and 5 men - the presence of 10 dryers) and one in Banfora (which employs 30 women and five men - the presence of driers 9) ;
The union has another site in the municipality of Banfora where it has set up its headquarters.

Union is a partner of Oxfam Quebec in the One Drop Project which is a project of water hygiene and sanitation in the region of Upper Basin and the Cascades Region.
The Union plans to install a production of shea butter in the Comoé.
And a unit of processing of cereals and fruit juices.
The Union plans to install a composting site to solve the issue of waste and allow the promotion of organic farming.
